How to Apply for Free Global Entry for Kids: A Guide for Families
Traveling with kids just got easier! As of October 1, 2024, children under 18 can now apply for Global Entry at no cost if a parent or legal guardian is already a Global Entry member. This new policy aims to reduce stress and streamline the travel process for families.
Here’s what you need to know to take advantage of this program:
What is Global Entry?!
Global Entry is a U.S. Customs and Border Protection program that offers expedited clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travelers arriving in the United States. Membership includes access to TSA PreCheck for faster security screening at airports. The application process is straightforward:
Online Application: Submit your application through the Trusted Traveler Programs (TTP) website, providing personal and travel details.
Conditional Approval: After a background check, you’ll receive notice of conditional approval.
In-Person Interview: Schedule an interview at a Global Entry Enrollment Center. This step applies to all applicants—including babies and toddlers! Bring your child’s passport and any required documents. Some airports also offer Enrollment on Arrival, allowing you to complete the interview after an international flight.
Why Global Entry for Kids is a Game-Changer
Free for Kids: No additional cost for your child’s membership means more savings for families.
Faster Travel: Kids with Global Entry can use the expedited lanes for customs and immigration, making international travel smoother.
TSA PreCheck Included: Children will also receive TSA PreCheck benefits if the guardian has it, allowing for easier airport security screening.
How to Apply for Free Global Entry for Kids
Ensure Parental Membership
You must already have an active Global Entry Membership OR you MUST apply for your own before filling out your child’s application to receive their application free (you will need either you own Global Entry number or your application number)
Complete a separate application for each child with their personal and travel information (you will need to list every country they’ve visited in the last 5 years)
You will need an email address for your child to apply – if you haven’t already, grabbing a free account through Gmail is a great option and can be used for other applications as well (e.g. Airline Rewards miles accounts).
Prepare for the Interview
Once conditionally approved, schedule an enrollment interview for your child at a Global Entry Enrollment Center.
Parents or guardians must accompany the child and bring required documents (passport, proof of conditional approval, and any other necessary identification).
Consider Enrollment on Arrival
If you’re traveling internationally, you can complete the interview process upon returning to the U.S. at select airports through the Enrollment on Arrival program.
The free Global Entry policy for kids is a fantastic step forward for families who love to travel. Start your application process today, and make your next family adventure smoother than ever! For more information, visit the Trusted Traveler Programs website.
